I have suffered from OCD since around age 13. My OCD was in a kind of remission (and I was really good at hiding it), but after I had my daughter, it started to creep back into my life. I guess, since I am on maternity leave, I have a lot of time with my daughter at home, and since she can't talk, THE OCD DOES. My OCD is mostly about contamination, dirt, and cleanliness (diapers and waste really bother me), although every once in a while, I will get some intrusive thoughts. I think I also have a little bit of a hoarding problem (I don't like to throw things away for fear that I will need them later) and therefore, an obsessive compulsive shopping problem (I worry that I will run out of something and when someone mentions a book, I have to go buy it)... UGH! Why does OCD take the POSITIVE people and things you care about the most and turn them into NEGATIVE obsessions and compulsions?!

I'm really late in responding to you, and if I did already, forgive me--my husband has been in the hospital and the last week is pretty much a blur for me. You can do exposure exercises with my birds any time you like! I have a 15-yr-old Quaker named Snickers and a 3-yr-old Yellow-Naped Amazon named Nico. My pic is of a Blue Yellow-Naped Amazon. Nico looks just like that except he is green. One of these days I'll get around to putting pictures on my site--just lazy, I guess. Hope you're doing well today!

Hey- It could get confusing with the 2 JENs and Cats! :) well I have 3 kids: 13,11,and 1. No, the waste/diaper thing never has been a problem, but I don't find it strange that it bothers you....lots of stuff bugs me that I don't understand. When my girls were 3 and 1 we had the neighborhood sewer system come back in a rushing flood through our washer line in the basement. My husband had to wade through 6 inch deep "Crap Water" to fix the problem and thenwe had the ordeal of cleaning up and moving on. I wasn't quite at my OCD peak yet so I survived it. But I did call the board of health and have never forgot what the kind a knowledgable man told me. He said that the germs encountered from feces was one of the most common ones encountered in everyday life...considering the number of kids that don't wash their hands and stuff. He said that the human body has a very strong resistance to that stuff. He said the only thing we could worry about was hepatitis and we would be very unlikely to get that.

I'm glad your daughter is doing well. I am doing well also. I have about 5 weeks left til my due date. I just had another ultrasound because I have high blood pressure and they said everything is fine and he is about 6lbs 3 oz right now. Anyway I hope you are having a good week and I hope things continue to go well with your daughter. Thanks for caring:)
