I found out i had ocd after giving birth to my son which is almost 1 years old now. i never even knew what ocd was until then. i had a great pregnancy, at the end i had some complications with my blood pressure but other than that i was very happy and excited. Immediatly after giving birth i became severly anxious to the point of not even wanting to come out of the bathroom in the hospital, here this was suppose to be the happiest time of my life but i couldn't even enjoy my new baby. i remember waking up and my older son was in the room and my dad, i was having such a severe panic attack that i thought i was really going to die, i told my dad to take my son out of the room because i didn't want him to see what was about to happen. After that i was scared to go to sleep, i was obsessing about that happening again. Later when i got home is when the major obsessions came. i started having intrusive thoughts about my baby and myself. i didnt know what had happen to me. I thought i had gone crazy, but later was diagnosed with post-partum ocd. i wanted to share this because since going through this i have made a promise to myself to help other women like me. to help them through this time of need. postpartum ocd is alot like ocd so if you have or are suffering with ocd i am here for you. i thank all of you for the support you have given me and i look forward to getting to know many more of you.

There has to be some hormonal connection. Mine always went bezerk after the births...and stayed. But it always gets worse with PMS too. It will be interesting when they one day figure it out.

I have noticed many women here, like myself, report that their OCD really hit them after the birh of a child.  My first baby was born early and had some breathing difficulty,  When we finally got to take hime home, he needed to be on an apnea monitor 24 hours a day and the nurses warned us he was at increased risk for illnesses like RSV so we should have all visitors wash their hands before they touched him.  He's 15 now, healthy as can be.   But I have to look back at that now and think , could there be any better recipe to trigger my OCD contamination fears?  I would have had the same fears if my baby were born healthy, but geeze!! :)  I wonder when people refer to postpartum OCD, does that indicate the beginning of OCD symptoms after birth that continue, or is it considered only a period of time after birth when a woman has OCD but then her symptoms diminish?

I am pregnant with my second child. I remember my OCD starting around 7 years old but it got extremely bad after the birth of my daughter who is now almost 7. I started medication for the first time in my life after I had her.  Anyway I am having problems with my blood pressure right now. I was just wondering what kind of problems you had with yours and if they got better after the baby?
