Unlike my two teenagers, I have not used a forum such as this or My Space etc. in the past. However, this looks like a great site and I intend to get involved as time allows - both to gain more insight as well as to hopefully give some insight.

I am 52 years old and OCD kicked in for me right after graduating college in 1977. As most of you probably know, OCD was not a well known illness at that time. I went through about 5 years of Freudian therapy which gave me zero benefit. It was not until the early 1990's that I began to learn much about OCD; first in some books and later with the internet. I wish we had the kind of information available today when I was first going through my OCD symptoms - I often regret the "lost years" (still accomplished many things in my personal and professional life but not without great struggle) and what could have changed had I known more at the time. Anyway, my OCD type is Responsibility OCD whereby I feel over responsible for activities around me e.g. thinking I may have inadvertently hurt someone and thus have the compulsion to check that I have not. I take Zoloft but over the years have not been a consistent user. Over the past two months, I have finally gotten very serious about beating this problem and having been using the meds religiously. Don't want to run on too long here but just though I would give a bit of background given I am new to the site. Robby

People that can make fun of themselves, animals, the Internet, Italian food, chocolate milkshakes. I also like electronic gadgets although can never seem to find the time to get my IPOD up and running. That is a big goal over the next few months....I need some great anti-OCD music and some motivating exercise music.

OCD, Sleep Apnea, Shouting, ER (the TV show), partisan politics, gin and kamikazees (two long stories). Snakes and spiders are not big on my list either.

Hi, I also have some OCD that has to do with overresponsibility. I get thoughts that if I do not ritualize certain things, someone will get hurt or die. I think it's called "magical thinking."
