Oh,

I am so afraid of germs.  Not all though.  Bathrooms germs.  But my biggest fear is that everything I touch has someones pee or fecees on it.  I used to have trouble getting out of the bathroom; I mean it took hours.  This was before meds. My mom used to make me touch handles and then sit and not wash my hands for a certain amount of time.  This really did help, but even now, if I feel my hands are germy, I have to go wash them.  They have cracked and bled.  I like to use rubbing alcohol.  And I have washed my dogs paws too.

Compulsive handwasher.  Germ-X addict.  Hate public bathrooms and would wet my pants before using a porta-potty.  Don't like check-out lines or clipboards at the Drs. office. Naturally, open doors with my hip, elbow, lowest part of the door-handle, or anything "safer" than just grabbing it.  Roadkill??  Don't get me started.  Drop something on the floor in the store? Ahem.  Take zoloft and don't see being able to go off it.  Don't like it, but things can get much worse!!  TIRED of suffering and hate the impact on my husband and kids.

Should we "meet" here once in a while for a chat?

In thinking  back to my younger days I can see some OCD symptoms. Not real sure as to why now it is so severe I had to quit my job. It started while I was on this job, I was responsible for handling phones coming back from Hospitals and Hotels. The technicians would tell me stories of the phones being handed to them in hazmat bags and other disgusting stories.  And that when it started slowly at first then it progressed to where I could not touch any thing without feeling contaminated and had to wash my hands not just once but at least three times sometimes more. I started to ware rubber gloves when I had to handle these phones  but that really did no good I still had to wash my hands with hand sanitizer and alcohol three or more times usually 5 or 6 times.  Before I knew it everything was contaminated and it was spreading to my home. I had to throw away my cell phone cause no matter how much I cleaned it it was still contaminated, I fried all my home phones spraying them with alcohol.ect ect. I am unable to take the medication given to me cause it caused me to pass out twice, and that was a fear I could not handle. So, I am kinda on my own with this monster and any advise would be welcome.

Hi all.  I hate bathrooms they are so full of germs and bacteria.  I spend so much time cleaning the bathroom and then my hands {even though I wear gloves} afterwards that my hands are constantly cracking and bleeding.  I think sweating is absolutly disgusting and shower 2 or 3 times a day.  If I smell someones sweet it so grosses me out.  My husband is so good about shower and the rituals that keep me ok.  I am glad its winter as it always is better for the ocd, but I have to watch the seasonal depression.  Wow I am a mess!

Don't know if anyone still looks at this board but anyway. I hate germs of other people. I have this fear that every dude goes to the bathroom and doesn't wash their hands, meaning they touch their privates, and then touch everythign else! Argh......

I problem I have, is they say people with OCD know their thoughts are irrational......but  I don't.......they are rational it's friggen science man!

Has anyone gotten over this? And if so please tell me cos this is killing me! I'm heading on to 13 years of this crap.....half my age.....

I have recenlty, well in the past couple years, have developed germaphobia. I constantly wash my hands and use germ-X.  My biggest fear is getting sick. I hate bathrooms.  I feel they are the grossest place ever and full of germs, even my home bathroom which is clean. I have to get my grandmother to clean it because I can't handle the germs so I can't clean it myself. I hate the fact I am and  still have to have my grandmother clean my bathroom.

My OCD started out as just my surroundings had to be clean when it first came on. Then it developed into my body always having to be clean. Then it developed to food. I'm scared of eating food after the sell by date or food that has touched the counter or my clothes.

I also hate shaking hands, touching elevator buttons, touching carts, and so forth. I also have to wash my hands before I eat even the littlest sanck or peice of cany. I often weigh how hungry I am and whether or not it is worth it to go through everything for a peice of candy.

I  hope joining this support group will help me feel so not alone.

I doubt anyone uses this topic anymore, but just thought I'd join in.. been living with a mild to moderate case of Mysophobia since I was as young as I could remember. My mother has been a registered nurse since I was about 6 years old (26 now) and she taught me good handwashing and how to protect yourself against germs. Little did she know I'd go overboard with it!

When I was young, I was shown microscopic pictures of bacteria and it terrified me. I now was my hands more than I should, just because they feel "dirty". I will not touch my face until I wash my hand, or eat a piece of food. I hate shaking hands or other people handing me candy or anything that they touch that is supposed to go in my mouth. I am disgusted by public bathrooms and used to hold it until school or work was over with which I'm sure over the years has caused some damage to my kidneys. I'm just starting to use public restrooms in case of emergency. I am freaked out by the bottoms of shoes and the bottoms of pants that drag on the ground... if I drop something, like food or my cell phone or anything personal, I will sanitize it before using it again.. or simply throw it away. I sanitize my own toilet seat, handle, door knobs, refridgerator handle, stove knobs.. I also sanitize shopping cart handles and car keys, as well as my purse and wallet. If someone coughs or sneezes near me or as I am passing, I will hold my breath until I am far enough away from the spread of germs. The only people I seem to not have a fear of contamination with are my mother, father, grandmother, aunt and my boyfriend (yes, surprisingly, I have a boyfriend! lol).

I hate living in fear of germs/bacteria, but I seem to manage all right.. even with funny looks my way. Maybe I need some medication. :( I'm glad I'm not the only person who feels this way.. makes me feel better.

Hi, I'm just getting ready to go into my "dungeon"...the bathroom.                                 I'll spend around 9 hours in there. Each and every day. Alcoholing everythig, even me. So scary and the fumes are so bad I'm very afraid I'm killing myself. Bathroom germs just seem larger than life. So disgusting too. I'm afraid I'll contaminate others in my family with my germs and I'm afraid of germs from people I don't know. I do all I can not to use a public toilet.

I took Anafranil for years and did really well but had to stop because it ravaged my health. I could hardly even walk.  Nothing else has worked.

I had repetition ocd as a kid but was able to get it under control on my own with techniques similur to Brain Lock, but not with this. It just won't budge. I hope to get it under control naturally. I hope others have had sucess in this way and can share what they did. thanx
