my obsessions generally circle around intrusive thoughts about harming loved ones, germs and contamination, and the well being of my two year old son!

i havnt been to bad lately due to medication and great therapy BUT tonight i was watching A CURRENT AFFAIR and a story came on about teaching your kids to swim to stop drowning and there was parent on there who had toddlers who drowned telling there story to get the word out.

the pain in there eyes was guttwrenching! and now im thinking about how im staying with my mum on the weekend who has a pool! and now i dont want to go! i am well aware that the chances of this happening to me is very slim BUT i am still running questions, senarios and so on throught my head! round and around causing me some degree of anxiety

should i still go to my mums?

Hello my friend- I was wondering if you have been able to go to your mothers home and how you are doing dealing with that drowning fear...or if that has passed.

Hello there- You and I have many of the same obsessive fears...check out my site. And I was just telling someone today that I have to take my 21 month old to stay with a sitter today who lives on a pond. Drowning is a fear of mine... we have a pool on each side our home...and sometimes they do not close the gate.

Would you consider this?Really monitor what you allow your mind to take in and feed upon. This is HUGE  for me. I no longer watch those kind of shows. I do not read magazine articles about bad things happening to kids. I do not look up those things on the internet.

Tell yourself that if you never saw that show, you would be having a pleasant weekend at your mothers. and then try to live like you never saw it.

There is nothing wrong with being vigilent with watching toddlers around water. Take a few steps, using your wise mind, to be reasonably safe. But by all means, you MUST go to your mothers. If you don't, you will be feeding your OCD by avoiding what you are afraid of and believe me your fear will grow quickly into a beast....You don't want to be afraid of all water, and cause your baby to be afraid of all water as well. Face your fear my friend, as hard as it may be.

Ask another mother who does not have OCD , that you trust, what precautions she would take with a toddler and a pool. Then try to live like that  smart mother. That sometimes works for me.

If you give OCD an inch,it will take a mile.

I've been there. And I've done that. If I were you I would try to fight back against this new fear by taking baby to an indoor Mommy/baby swim class. Be strong!
