Sweet Calming Pain

You know ...I have been sitting here tonight trying to get up the nerve to ask a question that I have been wantingto ask for months so here goes. Does anyone here have or have you ever had a problem with non-suicidal self harm as a form of stress relief ? I have been battling this demon for some time and until tonight I had done so well. But it sneeks back up on you tempting you telling you how good the pain would feel...I become frustrated and antsy ...its not what I want but who doesn't want to feel that rush of relief. Its been months since I have done it and I am proud of that...I just wish I could kick it all together. Any good alternatives ?

I started self harming back in February this year and im glad to say i've not self harmed for about 3 or 4 weeks now but when i stopped cutting i started taking tablets (overdoses) but not to kill meyself psychiatrists told me it was another form of self harming. I did get some advice from professional workers in that area they said try holding an ice cube against you'r arm,  or ping an elastic band on your wrist i didn't think that one helped because there is no blood so they suggested i get a red pen and mark my wrist as if i was bleeding and ping the elastic band to get that release.


 


I hope this helps if you want to know anymore about the way i self harmed or any questions just ask i don't mind if i can helf.

i admire you for speaking about something so difficult. I myself am too scared of pain and have never considered it. I think most people find it hard to understand. I can not really fathom the relief? Im glad you are not suicidal and that you have been fighting this urge. I think maybe the pain might temporarily remove your thoughts of emotional pain? Im sorry I am just trying to understand. Im sure you have tried many methods to get another form of relief already. Maybe you could just come talk to us when you get the urge. I have learned after much laughing to meditate and I find it does relief stress. It took a long time to learn though.
