I recently sought treatment because it was becoming completely unmanageable, even debilitating, and I feared I was losing my mind. I have been diagnosed with “Pure O” OCD, primarily with violent and gory intrusive images. When I was finally diagnosed, it was like a light clicked on, and it all finally made sense.
Thinking back, I see that I have had my OCD since I was about 5 years old. Throughout my childhood and teen years, it waxed and waned, and I can clearly remember the times when it was at its worst. Back then I thought that maybe everyone has these thoughts, but now I know that having a thought or image consume your mind for hours at a time is my OCD.
I was raised religiously, and my OCD used to be centered around that, but now that I have somewhat “rejected” organized religion, the focus is now on the violent side.....
It’s so nice to have a place to come where everyone understands, and I don’t have to hide who I really am.
